Introduction of the Reliant engine

Postby LyndonH750F » Tue Dec 04, 2018 3:31 pm

Hello

Can anyone please tell me what year the Reliant engine was first introduced? In 750 form and then 850 form?

Thanks,
Lyndon

Hi Lyndon,

In Dick's book, the Reliant was introduced in 1966 in 600cc form. The 850 was introduced in 1987 and the 750 was in use in 1977, but I don't know if that was the first year.

The Fiat was introduced in 2003.

Dick,

so sorry to hear you are retiring after what must be the longest career span in the 750 Formula. If you hadn't tried your hand at other things you would have beaten Bob Simpson to the continuous career record. But if I am still racing at 105 I can beat you both.
It would great to see some pictures of you and the Tristesse cars over the years,

Martin

On pole? Did you win. I like the registration plate tucked in the nose cone - so handy for winter testing down to the pub.
I would love see some more. Time to write your memoirs.

Sue, top photo :- Dick pole finished 2nd,Jim White (Whico) 1st, Bill Cowley (Cowley mkIII) rtd year 1967 .

Bottom photo, don't think that no.40 is Dick not sure who it is,think the year is '66 as car 38( Complexity) has a roll bar, didn't have one in'65,and it looks like Richard De La Rue at the wheel not Jim Yardley

Ah....you could well be right. Not sure why I've got the Lydden photo but pretty sure it came from Dick on one of our reminiscing evenings!!
Nige....you & Dick ought to get together for a photo/history day!! The 2 of you go back a LONG way!

I didn't know Richard De La Rue raced in 750F. Assuming there cannot be two of them, he sold me the very crashed parts to build my first race car, a Mallock Mk16 in 1978. He was doing A class Clubmans at the time.

It must have been at the same time as I bought the diffs from Richard visiting his office in Leicester to collect them on a Saturday morning.
