Brands Hatch - Round 5

Was it just me that thought it was Mark's fault? I feel sorry for Heikki and don't agree with Coulthard that the smaller teams shouldn't battle for position.

I have to say that actually I agree. I thought it was Webbers fault as well. It was a bit silly of Webber to go for a tow in car so much faster, did he really need to? Lets not forget that Coulthard is somewhat in the pocket of Red Bull so he's bound to be biased...

Even if Heikki was being lapped it was still a bit unfair of Webber to sit right behind him as the poor bloke doesn't know what to do in order to get out the way.

Perhaps I've dug a hole for myself here...

I think that accussing Heikki of braking early in not on. When you are 2 seconds of the pace it is because your car needs to slow for the corners

Actually, it does surprise me that the fundamntal reason why Webber's crash was so spectacular and, for example, Max and Guy's was not, seems to pass completely unnoticed by experts commenting on the crash.

The reason Webbers car got airborne was because his open front wheel - with its forward surface rotating downwards - hit Kovalainen's rear wheel with its rear surface rotating upwards. With both tyres hot and sticky Mark's car was shot up in the air and the high speed caused it to flip.

The force of the collision was not that great - Kovalainens car was able to drive back to the pits. The speed differential was no greater than is common in club racing and much less than in James Culver and Dave Robson's startline crash last year. Obviously you need a good bit of speed to loop the loop but these kind of airborne crashes are common in open wheel racing . I remember a Formula Ford flying over the fence at Paddock Hill bend and landing on a Burger van. Formula Vee and F3 also have these kind of accidents, lower speeds but still dangerous.

Closed wheel racers like ours prevent front tyre to rear tyre collisions and are intrinsically safer.
Racing cars are much, much safer if they have sidepods and covered wheels

I believe this round was televised? If so does anyone know when its due on TV? I can't find any info on the club, AMGTV or Motors TV websites.
