Calibration standards for inside micrometers - or borrow

Postby RobSmith » Sat Dec 08, 2007 5:01 pm

Does anyone have a set of rings or similar to calibrate inside micrometers?
I have bought a second hand moore and wright set (2"-8")that look and feel in very good condition but I would like to verify they measure correctly.

Rob,

I was told to check internal micrometers with an external one every measurement. Since a lot of the internal ones have no calibration anyway this seems a reasonable approach. I suppose it depends on whether you are looking for an absolute dimension or just comparitive.

Thanks Will,
I will be wanting to measure my upright bearing fits.
Like you say I do not need absolute numbers I can just do comparative measuring.
I can set my external micrometers to the bearing and then use my internal micrometer to compare the bore to that.
